Work Experience
At Saint Gabriel’s College, we are committed to preparing students for the world of work and equipping them with the skills needed for future success.
Year 10 Work Experience Week
All Year 10 students will complete a week of work experience from:
Monday 29th June – Friday 3rd July 2026
Work experience provides students with the opportunity to:
- Explore different career pathways
- Develop key workplace skills
- Build confidence in professional environments
Work experience does not need to directly link to a student’s future career aspirations. Instead, it focuses on developing transferable skills, such as:
- Communication in a professional setting
- Working with a range of people
- Understanding different job roles
- Meeting deadlines and following instructions
Parental/ Carer Consent
To participate in work experience, parental/carer consent is required. This ensures we have the necessary permissions and information to support a safe and successful placement. Students will not be permitted to attend a placement without a completed consent form.
Please complete and return the Work Experience Consent Form.
Placements
Students are encouraged to secure their own work experience placement, as this often leads to a more meaningful and engaging experience.
The most effective way to find a placement is through family connections, friends, or work colleagues. A Work Experience Letter Template is available to support students in contacting potential employers. If additional support is required, students can arrange an appointment with the Careers Leader.
The deadline for arranging placements is Friday 22 May 2026.
During the work experience week: there will be no Year 10 lessons.
- Students with placements will attend their workplace
- Students without placements will be required to attend school and complete supervised work
How We Support Our Students
We provide a range of support to help students prepare for and succeed in their placements:

- Assemblies and advisory sessions focused on preparing for work experience
